Welcome to www.HealthyChildSummit.com, the website dedicated to reducing the rate of childhood overweight and obesity
in Caldwell County kids!

THE FACTS:

  • Almost 2/3 of North Carolinians are overweight or obese, both conditions that can lead to an increased risk of such major health issues are high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
  • It’s not just adults who are victims of NC’s overweight and obese epidemic. It’s our children too. In fact, we’re the fifth worst state for childhood obesity - and Caldwell County is worse than North Carolina's average!

THE MISSION:

  • The aim of this endeavor is to reduce the percentage of Caldwell County children ages 2-20 who are overweight from 21.6% to the North Carolina average of 17.4% by 2013.

THE SUMMIT:

  • Caldwell Memorial Hospital and our community partners wish to thank everyone who participated in A Summit for the Health of Our Children on Saturday, October 18 at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center.  Participants learned about our childhood obesity epidemic and what we can do about it right here at home. The free program brought national-level experts to Caldwell County. To view the program agenda, click here.
  • We are pleased to announce that A Summit for the Health of Our Children was videotaped and aired in segments on editions of Caldwell County Today. Please click here for any additional dates and times.
  • At the conclusion of A Summit for the Health of Our Children community members set priorities for beginning a five-year campaign to lower the rate of overweight and obesity in Caldwell County's children to equal North Carolina's average rate. To learn more, click here.
